The Member Section works to accelerate the further adoption, application, and implementation of the Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) international standard, its industry specific profiles, and WebCGM, the W3C Recommendation for CGM usage on web pages. The WebCGM specification is developed within the OASIS CGM Open WebCGM Technical Committee. The Member Section also works to promote the adoption of WebCGM through market awareness, education, and interoperability.
Who are its members?
Participants in the OASIS CGM Open Member Section are users of CGM, suppliers of CGM technology, and those otherwise interested in supporting CGM Open's mission. Any member of OASIS is welcome to participate in the work of CGM Open without additional dues or cost. Your membership in CGM Open makes a portion of your normal OASIS dues available to help support the work of CGM Open.
How long has CGM Open been serving the community?
CGM Open was founded in May 1998. Originally, it functioned as a community of vendors and users dedicated to advancing CGM, which was first published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). In 1999, CGM Open became an affiliate of OASIS and first published WebCGM in collaboration with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The specification was revised in 2001. CGM Open transitioned to become an OASIS Member Section in February 2004.
Does the OASIS CGM Open Member Section encourage open participation?
OASIS believes widespread adoption can only be achieved when all those affected by a standard participate in its creation. The consortium offers a range of membership levels to support an inclusive, international, and balanced member base. CGM Open makes publicly available its technical committee email archives, meeting minutes, and milestone snapshots of developing work. This allows even non-members to monitor key specification milestones and provide some feedback on our work.
What are the group's operating policies, including IPR?
How is the OASIS CGM Open Member Section governed?
Activities of the Member Section are managed by a Steering Committee that consists of one appointed seat allocated to the CGM Open Program Director and two seats elected by members of the OASIS CGM Open Member Section. The selection of the Steering Committee is based on individual merit and is not tied to financial contribution, corporate standing, or special appointment.
